VANCOUVER — Who’d have thought a summer visit to Canada would result in a winter athlete coming out of Jamaica?
“But it’s true, mon.”
Who’d have thought music legend Jimmy Buffet was a fan of dogsledding?
“But it’s true, mon.”
Who’d have thought a man who had never seen snow before last year would be the most popular man in Whitehorse?
“But it’s true, mon.”
Danny Melville is on the phone from the headquarters of the Yukon Quest Dog Sled Race and his thick Jamaican accent has one immediately thinking surf, sand and sarongs.
Melville is the owner of Chukka Caribbean Adventures and the brains behind the first, and only, Jamaican dogsled team. He founded the team a couple of years ago during a June visit to Edmonton, where he saw a musher running a dog team on a wheeled sled over snowless terrain....
