Novice musher Damian Robb began his training in Minnesota at the beginning of October and ran his first race the Byllesby Dryland Classic in Cannon Falls on October 20-21; following in Devon Anderson’s footsteps, he finished in 2nd Place in the 4-Dog Rig Class. At the Dirty Dog Dryland Derby, October 27-28, Robb finished an impressive 3rd in a very competitive field. He has one more dryland race, the East Meets West Dryland Challenge, November 17-18, 2007, before hitting the snow in January. We’ll be doing a wrap release with Robb’s dryland race results after this race.

About the Dirty Dog finish, Ken says, “Robb did fantastic!! The 4-dog Pro class at any Wisconsin race, dryland or snow, is extremely competitive.
There were 16 teams in his class, the Adult Rig 4-Dog Speed Class. If Robb had finished 7th or 8th I would have been impressed because it takes more than just good dogs to get into the top 5 with these people. The other top team drivers all commented that he must doing all the right things by finishing 3rd , after two days of racing Robb held third by just 100ths of a second. The driver behind him is Michael Marsh, a multiple ISDRA medal winner, who was also very impressed by Robb. The course is a hilly and fairly curvy trail that is 2.7 miles long.”

About the Byllesby Dryland Classic finish, Ken says, “His 2nd day time was only 4 seconds slower than the leader and when he came in he said the dogs had a lot more to give. I think Robb did everything right this weekend….this was a small fun race that is perfect for getting the team and musher ready for bigger races. He is comfortable on the Outlaw rig and he is really bonding with his team. He ran 1.63 miles in 4:30:31
(min./sec./100th) which is freaking fast.”

JDT will not be participating in the St. Paul Winter Carnival, instead the team will head to the Three Bear Winter Sled Dog Races, February 2-3, 2008 in Land O’ Lakes, WI. Ken says that the area is a winter resort for people from Milwaukee/Chicago and IL. It’s a very competitive race with teams sometimes coming from Canada and Alaska. Robb will be entered in the 4-dog pro which can easily have 40 teams competing. Ken himself was 2nd in that class twice. Haliburton is also expected to be a very big race, lots of teams and spectators.
