Jamaica Dogsled Team Musher Newton Marshall to Race in the 210-Mile Percy DeWolfe Memorial Mail Race

Twenty-four year old Jamaican Oswald "Newton" Marshall will mush a team of nine sled dogs in The Percy DeWolfe Memorial Mail Race, racing against a field that includes some of the best long-distance mushers in the world. This historic race takes place March 27-28, 2008 on the 210-mile Yukon River trail from Dawson City, Yukon Territory to Eagle, Alaska and back. This will be the first sanctioned sled dog race for Marshall and successful completion will be the first step by the Jamaica Dogsled Team to qualify him for the 2009 Yukon Quest.

Jamaican Dogsled Team musher returns to Yukon with US Visa approved

Jamaican Dogsled team musher Oswald “Newton” Marshall returned to Yukon February 2nd after a journey back to Jamaica to apply for a US Visa.
“The US Visa was crucial to training and qualifying to run the Yukon Quest in 2009.” says owner Danny Melville. “Newton is in the midst of an intensive program with his sled dog team and this Visa will allow him to travel for racing and training to the US and in particular Alaska.”
Hans Gatt, a three time Yukon Quest champion has been working with Newton and a team of dogs from his yard since his arrival in Yukon in December. In order to run in the Yukon Quest Newton needs to successfully complete a 200 and 300 mile qualifier race....

KINGSTON, JAMAICA

Novice musher Damian Robb began his training in Minnesota at the beginning of October and ran his first race the Byllesby Dryland Classic in Cannon Falls on October 20-21; following in Devon Anderson’s footsteps, he finished in 2nd Place in the 4-Dog Rig Class. At the Dirty Dog Dryland Derby, October 27-28, Robb finished an impressive 3rd in a very competitive field. He has one more dryland race, the East Meets West Dryland Challenge, November 17-18, 2007, before hitting the snow in January....
