Newton Marshall and the rest of the Jamaica Dogsled Team are preparing to head North to begin training for the 2010-11 racing season. Marshall is scheduled to depart for Alaska the end of August.

June 28, 2010 (Ocho Rios, Jamaica) – On Saturday in Alaska, Newton Marshall of the Jamaica Dogsled Team (JDT) officially signed on to test his skills on the 2011 Iditarod. This will be the second time Marshall has run the Iditarod.
Four-time champion Lance Mackey, who will once again be training Marshall as he prepares for the race, was on-hand in Wasilla to deliver the required documentation.

He is currently ranked 2nd overall in the 6-dog sprint category and 6th in the 4-dog sprint category. These rankings are based on the Triple Crown Club 2010 Points system, which combines results from Ontario-based sled dog races in 2010.
March 19, 2010 (Nome, Alaska) – After nearly two weeks on the trail, Newton Marshall and his team crossed the finish line in Nome, Alaska this evening to complete the 2010 Iditarod. Marshall completed the race in 47th place.
He and his team of 11 dogs arrived at the finish line at 7:27 PM AKST. His trainer, Lance Mackey, was there to greet him as he waved a huge Jamaican flag with pride.

March 18, 2010 (Elim, Alaska) – Newton Marshall is nearing the final few checkpoints after resting and departing from Elim early this evening in the 2010 Iditarod.
Marshall traveled at an average speed of just over 7 MPH between Shaktoolik and Koyuk. He reached the checkpoint in Koyuk last night at 9:02 PM Alaska time after traveling for six hours and 33 minutes. He and his team of 11 dogs rested in Koyuk for nearly nine and a half hours. They departed from Koyuk at 6:30 AM this morning.

March 17, 2010 (Shaktoolik, Alaska) – Newton Marshall rested and departed from the Shaktoolik checkpoint this afternoon, continuing his trek to the Nome, Alaska finish line in the 2010 Iditarod. He is currently running with 11 dogs on the line.
Along the trail the Jamaican musher had some kind words for his trainer, Lance Mackey, who won the race yesterday afternoon.
"I'm so happy for Lance," Marshall said. "This was a big deal for him and I'm lucky that I got to learn from him."

March 16, 2010 (Kaltag, Alaska) – Newton Marshall reached the Unalakleet checkpoint this evening. Marshall's trainer for the 2010 Iditarod, Lance Mackey, has crossed the finish line in Nome.
Mackey won the his fourth consecutive Iditarod at 2:59 PM AKST. During an interview at the finish line, Mackey said he misses his dog, Larry, who is running on Marshall's team in the race this year.

March 15, 2010 (Nulato, Alaska) – Newton Marshall departed from the Nulato checkpoint this afternoon at 1:44 PM AKST and is now en route to the Kaltag checkpoint. He departed with 12 dogs on the line after an 11 hour and 15 minute rest.
Marshall left Galena last night at 7:30 PM after about five hours of rest. He reached Nulato at 2:29 AM after nearly seven hours of travel time.

March 14, 2010 (Galena, Alaska) – Newton Marshall arrived at the Galena checkpoint this afternoon at 2:36 PM and at the time of this release was still resting his team and preparing for the next leg of his race.
Marshall made great time to Galena from Ruby and even passed another musher on the trail - he overtook Scott White near the halfway point on the jumble ice.
