The Jamaica Dogsled Team (JDT) will be hosting an exclusive advance screening of the new documentary "Underdog", by Toronto production company AJE Productions.
The documentary is an intimate profile of JDT rookie musher Newton Marshall, and his journey from Jamaica to the finish line of the Yukon Quest, a grueling 1,000-mile dogsled race in the middle of an arctic winter!
The fundraising screening event will be held at the Berkeley Church (315 Queen St E) on Thursday, November 12th from 7 PM - Midnight. Founder Danny Melville and JDT mushers Newton Marshall and Damion Robb, will be in attendance.
Funds raised at the event will be put towards the costs of travel, dog care and musher expenses for the team. The team is in preparation for 2010 Iditarod, also called "The Last Great Race". The JDT also has an ambitious race schedule leading up to Iditarod including races in Kalkaska, Michigan; Duluth, Minnesota and several races in Ontario in cities such as Haliburton, Cannington and Kearney.
The evening will include live and silent auctions. Prizes will include an exclusive Jimmy Buffett concert package and memorabilia donated by Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville, a chance to travel to Jamaica courtesy of WestJet Vacations and Superclubs Breezes for an all-inclusive Jamaican vacation, all the adventure you can handle with Chukka Caribbean Adventures and of course your own private ride with the famous JDT. There will also be a fantastic prize of a private box for six to be right over the chute at the Calgary Stampede in 2010.
"We are going to put on a fabulous event," said Danny Melville, founder of the JDT. "We have a lot of fans in the area and are inviting them to party with us and help raise the funds needed to do what our boys do best - race!"
Great Jamaica food will be served, and a cash bar will be available.
Tickets are $65 per person. To purchase, please call (416) 266-3462 or email truddock@chukkacaribbean.com.
Current JDT sponsors include: Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville, Chukka Caribbean Adventures, WestJet Vacations, Alpine Aviation, Yukon Harley-Davidson, Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville - Caribbean, Annamaet Petfoods and the Jamaica Tourist Board.
